NCW Announces Spring Writer’s Retreat

By Ronda Simmons

NCW member and famous author Jim Davidson has graciously agreed to lead a writing retreat this spring in Nepal in conjunction with NCW’s annual conference. Jim’s third book, Jim Davidson’s Adventure Cookbook, will be released on April 20, 2021.

Order Your Copy Soon. Supplies Are Limited!

In it, you will find recipes for many of Jim’s famous dishes, including Stupa Stew, Sherpa Salad, and Yak Crack, his famous chocolate dessert. Fortunately for us, Jim’s Food Network schedule allows him the time necessary to lead this trip.

Attendees must be willing to carry a full backpack unaided to Basecamp. Also, all attendees must sign a waiver releasing NCW from responsibility for any injuries, whether they be physical, mental, or grammatical, while on the retreat.

Itinerary

May 3 – Depart Denver International Airport aboard Qatar Airways flight J58 to Kathmandu. Each traveler may check one bag and will be limited to one carry-on item.

May 4 – Arrive in Kathmandu, where you will check into the 5-star Hotel Yak and Yeti. You will have time to explore the local markets before evening reception, where you will meet your personal Sherpa and be briefed on the next day’s hike.

May 5 – Leisurely hike to Base Camp. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by Peter Hillary, son of the legendary Edmund Hillary, with readings from his latest book of poetry, “That’s a Big Mountain.” Afterward, attendees are welcomed to read from their works in progress and receive Jim and Peter’s feedback.

May 6 – Hike to Camp 1 and listen to Jim’s interactive lecture titled “When to Split the Infinitive.” Spend the afternoon on re-writes based upon the previous day’s critique.

May 7 – Hike to Camp 2. Work in small groups to experiment with points of view.

May 8 – Summit Everest. Write group haiku on experiencing creativity at altitude.

May 9 – Descent to Kathmandu (downhill is always faster) in time to board Qatar Airways flight Y37-br7Q12 to Denver. Because of crossing time zones, arrive in Denver before leaving Nepal.
